The Good Life

Ephesians 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Sometimes, I like to sit and imagine what heaven will be like. I just know chocolate has to be included. And strawberry cheesecake. And, best of all – calorie counting will be a thing of the past.

All kidding aside, heaven will be wonderful simply because God is there. It will shine brilliantly with the light of Jesus’ glorious countenance. Every good and perfect gift – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, self-control, humility, forgiveness . . . these are just a few of the things that we struggle with here, but will have in abundance in heaven.

But we don’t have to wait until heaven to experience these heavenly gifts! God has given us all the resources we need, right here and now, to have these qualities in our lives. They are heavenly because they are eternal, unlike the earthly gifts of wealth or physical beauty or temporary fame.

When Paul wrote these words, he was as poor as a church mouse. He didn’t have many earthly blessings, yet he considered himself to be rich! God had provided him with everything he needed to live a joyful, peaceful, abundant life.

Quite often, we attach the word “blessings” to the temporary gifts God gives us. We are blessed with houses, cars, jobs, good health, plenty to eat. But those kinds of blessings, no matter how great they are, will not last. As children of the Most High King, we have been blessed with gifts that will truly provide us with “the good life” – both now and for eternity.

Dear Father, Thank You for giving me everything I need to live a joyous, peaceful, rewarding life in You.

Amen
