Pick Me, Pick Me!

Ephesians 1:4 “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”

Do you remember that feeling, in third grade, when the teacher lined everyone up against the wall, appointed two team captains, and told them to choose teams? Man, I hated those times. My palms would get all sweaty, and I could barely breathe. Pick me, pick me, please pick me. If the teams were athletic, I was often the last picked. But I just loved it when they were choosing for the spelling bee, because then, I was the first choice!

It feels good to be chosen. It doesn’t matter if it is for a sports team, a spelling bee, or a job, we all want to be picked. We all want to feel wanted, needed, loved.

Well, friends, we can want no more, for we have been chosen! The King of Kings chose each and every one of us, before time began! He thought us up, called us by name, and chose us for His very own. He wants us.

But here is something even more amazing to me: the God of the Universe chose to humble Himself. He put Himself on the wall, so to speak, and He wants us to choose Him. He sits on His throne in heaven, and says, pick Me, pick Me, please pick Me . . .

If He had wanted to, God could have created a bunch of robots who have no choice but to love Him. But He didn’t. He chose us, and now He stretches out His arm in a divine invitation to choose Him back. And when we do, when we accept His love, and accept the gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ, all of heaven rejoices! Then, He begins His work in us, making us more like Him, creating in us a family resemblance of holiness and blamelessness so that all the world can see – we have been chosen.

Dear Father, Thank You for choosing me. I choose You back.

Amen

I choose you, Jesus because you are the door – the way, the truth and the light. And, Father, Thank you for choosing Renae for me. I am so blessed to be the mother of Renae and Shelby. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

I think this is why I love it when my two teenagers say hey mom want to go eat dinner, to the mall, come talk whatever. I know that they want me, they picked me over a friend, which if you have a teenager or were a teenager, a mom is someone you need only occasionally over a friend. This week has been hard on me because I felt out of the loop being gone and now sick. Nevertheless, my great husband and kids pitched in and I feel loved. They have each picked me this week and it is a great feeling to be needed. Most importantly of all I am so very thankful that when I feel the least deserving of all and the emptiest to give God still picks me to love and care for.
Thank you Jesus for picking me, for searching my imagination and growing me spiritually this week, loving me and filling me up with your understanding and compassion.
