Getting Promoted

Esther 8:1 – 2 “That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came into the presence of the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. The king took off his signet ring, which he had reclaimed from Haman, and presented it to Mordecai. And Esther appointed him over Haman’s estate.”

Don’t you just love it when the good guys get rewarded? Mordecai had served the king faithfully. He had been publicly recognized. Now, he is given the number two position in the kingdom. Things have certainly turned around quickly for Mordecai, haven’t they?

In this story, there are many parallels for the Christian life. Haman is a picture of Satan, who wants to destroy us. Xerxes can be compared to God – all powerful. And Mordecai? Well, he is us.

Friends, Satan wants to destroy us, just like Haman wanted to destroy the Jews. He will use any means possible to do it, too. He will sneak around, lie, and cheat. He prepares a gallows from which to hang us, and a post on which to impale us. Whenever he succeeds in destroying a person, he laughs and celebrates.

God, on the other hand, has the power to destroy Satan. He also has the power to save each and every one of us. And when we come to Him, as Esther came to Xerxes, He will welcome us. And just as Xerxes gave Mordecai his signet ring, God offers us His own signet ring – the Holy Spirit. Just as the signet ring held the power of the king, the Holy Spirit holds the power of God within us.

Do you feel that Satan is winning in your life? Hang tight, my friends, and keep falling at the feet of your King. He loves you more than anything, and He wants to save you. Not only that, but He wants to give you power and lift you to a place of honor.

Dear Father, Thank You for saving me, and giving me the power of Your Holy Spirit. I’m so glad to know that Satan cannot win against You.

Amen
