Rich and Powerful

Ephesians 1:18 – 19 “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”

Hope. That is an interesting little word. In our society, it holds the idea of a weak, sometimes feeble optimism. “I hope it doesn’t rain on the day of the picnic.” “I hope I get a good Christmas bonus from my boss.” “I hope our team wins the game.”

But this is one of those words that doesn’t translate well into our language. When Paul used the word hope, he wasn’t referring to wishful thinking. Rather, he was referring to the present certainty of a future event. As Christians, we have hope, because we know in no uncertain terms that we are children of God. We know without doubt that we have already been written into the will, and that we have inherited everything that comes with being an heir to the Most High King.

Paul wanted us to know that hope. He wanted our eyes and our hearts to understand who we are in Christ Jesus. He wanted us to know, with all certainty, what we have been called to, what we have inherited.

Do you know what you have, my friend, as a child of God? You have riches and power! You have the glorious riches that originate with God Himself. Not only do you have the riches of wisdom and peace and joy and patience and kindness, and all those spiritual gifts that God gives to His children. But someday, we will actually live in a place where gold, actual gold, is so abundant that it is used like concrete, to pave the roads.

And you have power! You have so much power in the name of Jesus, that Satan runs at the mention of that name! You have the very power of God harnessed within your spirit, for when God adopts you, He comes and lives within you! You do not have to be afraid, friends, about the future, for you have hope. You have the riches of heaven. And you have the very power of God.

Revelation 21:21 “The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was made of pure gold, like transparent glass.”

Psalm 77:14 “You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. “

Dear Father, Thank you for my inheritance of riches and power. Please help me to understand what that means.

Amen
