I John 5:3-5 “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
My husband has recently begun lifting weights. He has gotten really buff! As he consistently lifts more and more weight, his muscles grow stronger, and tasks that were once burdensome to him are now easy.
When we try to obey God’s commands with our own strength and willpower, we may feel burdened. But when we put our faith in Christ alone to save us and to help us, that faith will “buff us up.” When we consistently, through faith, obey His commands, we become stronger in our faith. With Christ, we are like the heavyweight champions of the world. We are overcomers!
As overcomers, we can face any trial, any hardship with victory. As overcomers, we can smile at the future, knowing that any battle we may face has already been won. When we obey Christ and put our faith in Him, we develop spiritual muscle, as we learn we can triumph over the very things which would have once brought us to our knees in defeat.
Dear Father, Thank You for making me an overcomer in this world.
