I John 5:11-12 “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
When I was young, I was a member of a certain club. We had a password, a secret handshake, even a secret knock. We had meetings, and only those who were members were allowed to attend. If you didn’t know the knock, the handshake and the password, you were banned.
Eternal life is a gift that is given to those who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as God’s Son. He is our password, our secret handshake, our secret knock on heaven’s gate. Only the secret isn’t hidden from us. His love is freely offered to all, and that’s no secret! Anyone can have eternal life, by believing that Jesus is God’s Son and that He bore the consequences for our sin on the cross.
When we have Christ, we will never have to face death. Oh, our bodies may die, but our bodies are just the houses we live in while we are on earth. When they die, we simply enter a new phase of our lives – the best phase! When our bodies die, we continue on to our true homes, the place where all sickness and disease and sin are a thing of the past, the place where we will spend eternity in the peaceful, glorious presence of our Father! Until then, our lives here on earth are better, for we live here with the countless benefits of being God’s children.
Those who deny that Jesus is God’s Son do not have life. They do not have eternal life, for the Kingdom of Heaven is only for members of God’s family. When physical death comes, those without Christ will be cast into eternal death! But even here on earth, those without Christ will not experience the abundant, life-giving advantages that come with membership in God’s family.
Dear Father, Thank You for the gift of eternal life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to share Your invitation to join the family with those around me.
Amen
I’m in. Praise the Lord!
Jean
Me too, Jean. Isn’t it great to be a member? 🙂
The wonderful difference between eternal life and the secret club of childhood is that anyone can have eternal life. We don’t have to be voted on by the other members or live in a certain neighborhood or look a certain way. All we have to do is accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and we’re in.
“He is our password, our secret handshake, our secret knock on heaven’s gate.” But the secret isn’t hidden from us.
Praise God!
Great point, Lillie! His love is free to all, and that’s no secret. I’ve edited my post to reflect that thought. Thanks for adding that!
